Howzit All, Welcome December and Seasons Greetings to all of you and your loved ones! Be sure not to blink too slowly or you might just miss it.... Seriously though, where has this year gone??
With this being our first winter Christmas since we moved to Spain, we finally get to enjoy and experience all the warm and comforting traditions like watching Christmas movies next to the fire with hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows, Christmas jerseys, scarves and pyjamas, and ofcourse, all kinds of delicious warm and comforting food. This is what we've been cooking this week to give us that comfort of home that we long for.
Nice 'n Spicy Madras curry spice mix is a favourite for us, because like most South Africans, we like things HOT! With Nice 'n Spicy, making this Madras Curry was so easy that it should be called 'nice 'n easy'. No need to go and buy all sorts of different ingredients and spices, Nice 'n Spicy has done all the measuring for you. They even have a simple to follow recipe on the back of the pack. Viola, authentic curry right in your own home!
Another quick fix is our Take 'n Bake Vetkoek mix. We've made the fluffiest vetkoeks using this easy just-add-water vetkoek mix, fried till golden brown and enjoyed warm, slathered with All Gold apricot jam. We've even experimented a bit with the dough and made delicious souskluitjies and koeksisters.
Steers Peri Peri Sauce has been great on chicken pieces, wings or kebabs on the braai, or even just on a roll with some homemade slap chips, Kota-Joe style! Pimp up your 'kota' with your favourite fillings like chorizo, bacon or fried onions, and finish off with Steers Peri Peri Sauce. Diet, what's that?
To satisfy our sweet tooth, we've made chocolate tiffin slices using our favourite shortbread biscuit, Eet-sum-mor. Something fun and so easy to make you can get the kids involved. Simply melt together 1 cup of dark chocolate, 100g of butter and 1 tin of condensed milk. Then mix in your chopped eet-sum-mor's, spread in a greased tin and let set in the fridge before slicing. We've made many variations of tiffin slices, some using chopped Sally Williams peanut-butter nougat, and some using dried cranberries or Maltesers, the results are always decadent! These are great for gifting and stuffing into Christmas stockings too.
